Professional Window Tinting for Turtle Code Compliance

Cities along the Southwest Florida coast have implemented “Turtle Code” lighting ordinances to protect endangered sea turtles.

Nesting season in Florida takes place between March 1st – October 31st, and 70% of the nation’s sea turtle nesting takes place on Florida beaches. During this season, female turtles bury their eggs in the water, who move towards the water once they hatch. Artificial lighting can confuse turtle hatchlings as they move towards the water by the light of the moon. These turtle code ordinances restrict the amount of light permitted through windows on beach homes & condos or commercial structures along the Florida coastline, so the hatchlings don’t get disoriented and can make it to the water.

If you have a home or business along the coastline, you don’t have to compromise your comfort to comply with Turtle Code regulations. By applying commercial and residential window films, you can abide by your county’s ordinance while keeping your home illuminated at night.

Sea Turtle Protection Ordinances

Several counties have adopted a sea turtle lighting ordinance, including:

  • Collier County
  • Lee County
  • Charlotte County
  • Sarasota CountyManatee County

The lighting regulation laws specifies what exterior lights and fixtures are allowed, including light that emanates from residences and businesses facing the beach.

As an example, the Fort Myers Beach regulation states that all light that can be seen from the beach must be shielded between 9PM – 7AM. Check the Florida Wildlife Commission website to see your city’s specific regulations.
