How to Properly Clean Tinted Windows On Your Home

Maintaining window film is simple and does not require frequent attention to keep it looking as great as the day it was installed. Home window film can be easily scratched unless it’s properly cleaned with the right supplies. Wait 30 days after film installation on your home windows before the first cleaning and take care with the inside of the window where the film is usually installed.

Tips for keeping window film clean and clear at home

Supplies

  • 3 Soft microfiber or lint-free cleaning cloths
  • Fresh distilled water
  • Liquid dish soap, avoiding abrasive ammonia-based solutions, which breaks down the adhesive layers of the home window tint
  •  2 spray bottles

Process

  • Clean when the window is cool, early morning or later at night
  • Avoid doing window cleaning in direct sunlight
  • In a spray bottle combine two-cups warm water and half a teaspoon dish soap
  • Fill second spray bottle with only clean, distilled water
  • Use the first microfiber cloth to gently wipe down the window in one direction to loosen any accumulated dirt
  •  Spray solution over the surface of the window and wipe down with second dry, clean microfiber cloth, again wiping in one direction
  •  Rinse window with water only and third dry, clean microfiber cloth, wiping in one direction
  •  Look for and wipe away any excess liquid at the edges of the window, which could get underneath the film causing bubbles or other issues

Cleaning tinted windows at home takes the right care and materials to prevent scratches and not weaken the installation adhesive. Proper cleaning will extend the life of your window tinting.
