Southwest Florida Window Tinting Regulations

Automotive Window Tinting Laws
Florida window tinting laws are based on Visible Light Transmission (VLT). These laws exist to increase the safety of drivers and passengers on the road. Installing a window tint against the states regulations can result in fines and legal penalties.
The Florida Automotive Window Tinting Laws are as follows:
For Sedans –
- Windshield: Tint must be non-reflective and can only be applied above the AS-1 line (around 5 inches allowance).
- Front Side Windows: Must allow more than 28% of light in & must not be more than 25% reflective.
- Back Side Windows: Must allow more than 15% of light in & must not be more than 35% reflective.
- Rear Window: Must allow more than 15% of light in.
For SUVs & Vans –
- Windshield: Tint must be non-reflective and can only be applied above the AS-1 line (around 5 inches allowance).
- Front Side Windows: Must allow more than 28% of light in & must not be more than 25% reflective.
- Back Side Windows: Must allow more than 6% of light in & must not be more than 35% reflective.
- Rear Window: Must allow more than 6% of light in.
In addition to these – colorized tint is not permitted, and a sticker must be placed on the inside of the driver’s side door jamb to identify legal tinting.

Residential and Commercial Tinting Regulations
Unlike automotive window tinting, there are no specific Florida laws regulating how dark your window films can be. There is a range of films available, from non-reflective ceramic films to full blackout privacy films.
